Missing Pieces
July 23, 2008
An Invitation from Ps. Margareta Dahlin Johansson
Missing Pieces, by Catherine McSharry will be performed on Sunday August 24, 2008 at 6:00 pm at Peace Lutheran Church. Members of the San Ramon Valley community are invited. Missing Pieces faces the reality of how families deal with Alzheimer’s disease. The play explores how we can stay connected with the heart and spirit of loved ones with Alzheimer’s without losing our own spirit and energy.
Admission to Missing Pieces is free but a donation of $10 is suggested. Tickets can be reserved by calling Peace Lutheran Church at 925-648-7000.
Missing Pieces will be valued by families and caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s. Following the play - in addition to a wonderful reception, an opportunity is available for you to meet with a religious leader from your faith tradition (interfaith clergy will be present) to reflect on insights Missing Pieces may prompt in you. Please join us for this important evening of drama, music and hope for the human spirit!
An invitation from Playwright, Catherine McSharry
As author, I hope this presentation of Missing Pieces at Peace Lutheran Church will be an inspiration to all who attend. Before the onset of Alzheimers, my mother studied to become a Spiritual Director. She always said the elderly need an opportunity to “tell their story” so that they can find closure and free themselves both to enjoy the time they have in the present and to be able to let go of this life when the time comes. I hope in some way that this piece takes up where her intentions left off by encouraging caretakers of the elderly or of those with dementia to appreciate the need of the spirit to find ways to resolve unfinished business.
I am so grateful to Peace Lutheran Church for hosting this presentation of Missing Pieces and invite all of you to come out to enjoy the story and songs! My hope is that you will come away entertained and inspired, and possibly encouraged, to revisit your understanding of life and the potential of the spirit within each of us.
